Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and Portland Fire and Rescue were able to keep a fire from destroying a home in the West Hills near Portland Monday evening. Smoke and flames did cause about $100,000 in damage to the home.
The resident of the home, located at 1431 NW 53rd Drive in Multnomah County, called 911 just after 5:00 p.m. reporting smoke and crackling noises coming from a pipe attached to a wood stove. Firefighters from TVF&R arrived to find smoke coming from the home’s chimney and smoke in the home’s second and third floors. As more firefighters arrived from nearby stations in both Portland and TVF&R’s service areas, firefighters from TVF&R’s Station 60 were able to locate the fire and extinguish it.
A TVF&R fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire.
