A resident moving into a condo at 5111 SW Oleson Road in Beaverton caused a fire that caused significant damage to the building’s interior. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the Spring Tree Condos after someone called 911 reporting a fire in the condo’s kitchen. The caller reported that the flames were spreading quickly and the heat from the flames was causing the windows to break.
When TVF&R’s Engine 65 from the West Slope Station arrived at the condo, they found heavy smoke pouring from the building and the residents of surrounding units had evacuated. As more resources arrived on scene, the crew from Engine 65 went on offensive mode and attacked the flames. The fire was knocked down quickly and most of the damage occured in the condo where the fire started.
After interviewing the condo’s occupant and prosessing the fire scene, an investigator from TVF&R has concluded that the fire started on the condo’s electric range. The resident told the investigator that she was moving into the condo last night and stacked some of her belongings on the stove. One of the boxes came in contact with the knob for one of the burners, which ignited the combustibles on the stove. The condo did not have a working smoke alarm or sprinklers.
The TVF&R investigator has estimated the damage to the structure and contents at $30,000.
