The video above, produced by the National Institute for Standards and Technology, speaks for itself. The holidays are over and it’s time to dispose of your Christmas tree. Drive around most neighborhoods in the metro area and you’ll still see Christmas trees in the windows of a few homes. If that’s your house, you should know that by now the tree in your living room is very dry and becoming a significant fire hazard.
Metro has a website that will help you find out how to dispose of your tree here.
TVF&R reminds you that when it’s time to dispose of your tree, NEVER burn it in a fireplace. The combination of oil, pitch, and dry branches can ignite within seconds, sending sparks and flames into a room or out of your chimney. Please dispose of your tree as soon as possible and do so safely. It could save your life and your home.
