Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue crews extinguished a fire at a 500,000 square foot warehouse in Wilsonville this afternoon. Someone called 9-1-1 at 1:17pm reporting a large column of smoke coming from a warehouse just west of I-5 at 27255 SW 95th Avenue in Wilsonville.
Responding fire crews could see the smoke from their fire stations as they began responding to the scene. A responding battalion chief called for a second alarm response, which caused more resources to be dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters from both Wilsonville fire stations 56 and 52 arrived to find a large warehouse with flames burning the building’s west wall. As more resources arrived, crews were able to quickly knock down the flames and keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the
building. Firefighters from TVF&R’s Truck 51 were able to get to the warehouse’s roof and extinguish the flames that had begun to burn on top of the structure.
The first responding crews knocked down the majority of the fire within three minutes of arriving.
A crew of roofers were working on the side of the building where the fire occured. A TVF&R investigator has concluded that one of the tar kettles overheated, causing it to catch fire. The flames spread to the side of the building. The fire caused a total of $20,000 damage to the building and $10,000 damage to the two trailers containing hot tar kettles.
A total of 36 firefighters and 9 fire apparatus from TVF&R and Lake Oswego were on scene.
