Wind Storm Keeps TVF&R Busy

A windy storm that blew through Oregon Monday night kept some of TVF&R’s firefighters awake for most of the night.  Wind gusts knocked down trees and branches and caused power lines to drop onto several roads.  In the past 24 hours, TVF&R crews have responded to seven calls for wires down and three reports of small fires caused by power lines.   Firefighters also responded to one report of a tree into a mobile home in the King City area.

“This is just the beginning of the stormy season here in the Northwest,” says TVF&R Communications Officer Brian Barker, “and this is a good reminder to prepare yourself and your family for wind storms.”

When high winds have been forecast, fill your family vehicles with fuel and anchor outdoor objects that can blow away (such as garbage cans, hanging plants, and lawn furniture) or move them inside.

During high winds, stay indoors and away from windows, do not drive, and stay away from downed power lines.  Stay tuned to a local radio or TV station for additional weather and emergency information.

Remember, if you see a power line on the ground, do not touch it with anything. Expect every power line to be “live.”
